The Town and Village of Allegany, NY are situated along the Allegheny River among the Enchanted Mountains of Western New York.
The Village with its newly renovated downtown area has many restaurants and bars in which to relax and many stores for shopping. Within the Town there are several parks for play and many hills and forests for hiking and hunting, along with two challenging golf courses. In addition, the ski areas of Ellicottville, Allegany State Park and the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel of Salamanca are only a 20 mile drive away.
The origin of the name Allegany is uncertain. It may have come from the name of a tribe called Allegewi that lived along the Allegheny River’s banks. It may also be based on an old Native American word meaning ‘lovely’ or ‘beautiful.’
